Informatie

Do you want to develop yourself at one of the largest organizations committed to meaningful innovation in global health? Then this is your chance!

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic intern to join the Engineering Innovation Team at Mentor Medical Systems in Leiden.

what we offer
  • € 650 per month (based on 40 hours)
  • Your development comes first
  • Leiden, the Netherlands
  • Working in an international organization
who are you

You are a student (HBO/WO level) who gets energized from brainstorming, coming up with new ideas and working with nice colleagues. You often may implement the ideas you come up with.

We also expect you to be a team player as well as an independent worker. It is an advantage if you have previous internship or work experience, but we can also teach you the tricks of the trade. Because we are an international organization, it is essential that you have a good command of (both Dutch and) English.

In addition, it is important that you have affinity with the following skillsets:

  • Robotics (mechanics, actuators);
  • Control systems;
  • Programming (languages like Python, C++);
  • Communication protocols;
  • User interface design;
  • Computer vision.
what will you do

Project Objective: Design and develop a system to remotely control a robot arm using teleoperation techniques. This will allow users to manipulate the robot arm in real-time from a distance.

During the project you will work with different hardware (robot arm, controller and the system which provides communication between robot and controller) and software (teleoperation interface, Inverse Kinematics solver and communication protocol for transmitting control signals).

We offer you the opportunity to:
- Gain experience in teleoperation and robot arm control;
- Apply knowledge of mechanics, control systems and programming;
- Develop a practical system with real-world applications.

If necessary, you can free up some of your time to work on a study assignment. We are therefore also open to graduate internships.

Key considerations:

  • The system should provide smooth and precise control of the robot arm;
  • Safety features should be implemented to prevent accidents during operation;
  • The user interface for teleoperation should be intuitive and user-friendly;
  • The system should be adaptable to different types of robot arms with varying degrees of freedom.
where will you work

Mentor Medical Systems is a manufacturer and supplier of breast implants and is part of the international Johnson & Johnson group. The office in Leiden develops and produces high-quality implants which are used in plastic surgery all over the world.

During your internship you will work with motivated colleagues who are always willing to help. There is plenty of room for personal input and creative ideas as we are always open to new innovations!

job application

Please keep in mind that you have to be enrolled at a (Dutch) university for the entire duration of the internship, otherwise we can't take your application into further consideration.

Uiteraard staat deze vacature open voor iedereen die zich hierin herkent.
