The EVM department supports the technical backbone of our Leiden site, covering utilities, production, laboratory areas, and GMP-critical equipment. Within EVM, the Compliance Group safeguards qualification and validation standards, while our maintenance teams manage critical assets. We're a driven and diverse team, making impactful progress toward life-saving innovations.

As an EHS Engineer, you’ll take the lead in developing and maintaining our Environment, Health & Safety systems, ensuring operational excellence, safety compliance, and continuous improvement across the site. You’ll be a subject matter expert (SME) for core safety practices—Permit to Work, LOTOTO, FARIP, working at height, hoisting, and more—while coaching your colleagues and embedding a safety-first culture throughout EVM.

• Lead and improve EH&S systems, standards, and risk management processes
• Drive implementation and compliance with J&J standards and ISO14001
• Coach and mentor EVM colleagues to raise site-wide safety awareness
• Conduct and support EH&S risk assessments and project safety evaluations
• Participate in audits (e.g., ISO 14001:2015, regulatory, J&J internal)
• Lead or support incident investigations and ensure actionable follow-up
• Design and deliver training sessions on critical EH&S topics

Job requirements:

• We are looking for a proactive problem-solver and safety champion who is energized by collaboration, innovation, and making a lasting impact:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical field

• 5+ years of EH&S experience, preferably in complex, high-regulated industries

• Solid experience with ISO14001 and other management system standards

• Skilled in risk assessment, coaching, and EH&S project support

• Confident communicator—able to influence and connect across teams

• Experience navigating organizational change with resilience and adaptability

• Certification as Primary Safety Expert (HVK) or equivalent is a plus

• Proficiency in English; Dutch is a plus.
