Technical Manager
There is always something happening at REMONDIS Aqua. One moment you are solving a process deviation at an industrial wastewater treatment plant, the next you are overseeing a major technical upgrade. Your role as Technical Manager
As Technical Manager, you are responsible for the operational performance of all water treatment facilities of REMONDIS Aqua in the Netherlands. You ensure that installations run safely, efficiently, and profitably, while providing your teams with the right tools, knowledge, and direction. With your technical expertise and helicopter view, you maintain control over processes, maintenance, and quality while continuously implementing improvements.
Together with Managing Director Sebastian Weil, you form the management team of REMONDIS Aqua Netherlands. You focus on technology, operations, and optimization; he focuses on strategy, business development, and finance. During the first six to nine months, you will work closely with Marc Kalf, the current Technical Director who will be retiring. This transition period allows you to gain a deep understanding of the organization and its installations before taking full responsibility.
Key responsibilities:
· Leading all operational activities and water treatment sites across the Netherlands.
· Managing, coaching, and developing multidisciplinary operational teams and site operators.
· Driving process optimization with a focus on safety, performance, and cost efficiency.
· Coordinating Technical and Process Design.
· Leading and guiding contractor negotiations and selection.
· Preparing and monitoring maintenance strategies, budgets, and investment plans.
· Leading client discussions and contract negotiations regarding pricing and operational agreements.
· Supporting site teams in managing day-to-day operations, process upsets, and maintenance shutdowns.
· Conducting technical due diligence and feasibility studies for new projects and locations.
· Overseeing procurement processes for capital-intensive technical equipment.
· Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
· Promoting a culture of responsibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

You are a technically skilled and practical leader who enjoys being close to operations while maintaining a strategic perspective. You understand what happens on-site and can translate complex technical situations into clear and effective decisions, keeping oversight without losing sight of the details. Calm under pressure, you help teams perform at their best, see challenges as opportunities, and combine deep technical expertise with a solution-oriented mindset to prioritize effectively and drive continuous improvement.
In addition, you recognize yourself in the following profile:
· A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, such as Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Technology.
· 8–10 years of experience in industrial or biological wastewater treatment, ideally in a similar operational setting.
· A strong background as an engineer, project manager, or technical lead, with a proven record in process optimization, planning, operations, and maintenance.
· Deep technical understanding and a keen eye for safety, reliability, and performance.
· Solid financial and commercial insight. You understand how technical decisions affect profitability and client satisfaction.
· Experience in developing customer-focused commercial proposals; you understand client needs, advise and convince with confidence, identify upsell opportunities, and communicate effectively while balancing individual and organisational interests.
· Strong focus on maintaining and developing both existing and new customer relationships.
· Experience leading and developing teams, fostering collaboration, craftsmanship, and accountability.
· Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English, allowing you to interact effectively with operators, management, and clients.
· A hands-on mentality, decisiveness, and a strong sense of responsibility.
