About ARTIC :)

ARTIC Technologies is a young, dynamic company developing advanced microscale fluid control solutions inspired by nature. Our first focus is to help scientists improve pre-clinical drug testing by offering a user-friendly platform for 3D cell culture. This platform makes 3D cell culture models more human-representative and increases their reproducibility, saving time and costs in drug development, while reducing animal tests.

Spun off from Eindhoven University of Technology, we use Magnetic Artificial Cilia (MAC) technology to move and control fluids with high precision. These tiny, nature-inspired hairs enable gentle, contactless fluid flow, which is ideal for complex in-vitro models.

We believe advanced technologies can contribute to a world where both human and the planet thrive. That’s why we are dedicated to transforming disruptive fluid manipulation technologies from the lab into real-world solutions—starting in life sciences, and eventually expanding into green tech.

Why this role matters?

We are currently in the early stages of developing our dynamic 3D cell culture platform. This platform consists of an array of tiny magnetic hairs (MAC), a microfluidic plate (MAC-plate) and a magnetic actuation system that drives the movement of these hairs (MAC-net). First prototypes have given us insights on what is possible and where more R&D is needed.

The MAC-net has now been mainly developed in collaboration with external partners, due to limited electronics and mechatronics knowledge in the team. We want to reduce this dependency and build internal expertise on the MAC-net in the team and thereby also make our product development a lot faster. The quicker we can move from prototype to minimum viable product to production stage, the sooner we start making an actual impact in pre-clinical drug development.

Now is a great time to join ARTIC, as you will be working in a small, dedicated team, where your work will really make a difference in moving the mission forward.

Tasks

Your focus will be on the development of the MAC-net and its control system, which entails:

  • Build and optimize the current MAC-net according to the requirements of the end application;
  • Communicate with partners and suppliers to design a new generation of MAC-net, which is industrially manufacturable and scalable in a cost-effective way;
  • Design and make control systems (hardware and software) for the MAC-net;
  • Doing so while continuously iterating on customers’ feedback.

Of course, you will not be doing this alone, but will be working in close collaboration with our CTO, and R&D Scientist who leads the development of the MAC-array and MAC-plate. Besides, we work with external parties that are experienced in the industrial development of 3D cell culture products and specialize in various manufacturing methods.

What success would look like?

  • A functional minimum viable product for our early adopters
  • Professional relationship within the team, and with our customers and partners, and efficient feedback implementation
  • A clear product development roadmap for new generations of MAC-net
Requirements

Required qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or higher education degree) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics or a related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of industry experience where you worked with electrical and/or magnetic systems
  • Good communication that allows you to perform well in a dynamic team environment
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with attention to detail but also the capacity to look at the bigger picture

What fits our startup culture well?

  • Passionate about working for an impact-driven startup company
  • Flexible to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities and timelines are constantly evolving
  • A real team player
  • Proactive and you like to carry responsibility for important technical tasks
  • Committed to continuous learning, on both soft skill and hard skill levels
Benefits

Our team’s well-being is a top priority for us. Therefore we offer:

  • A fair salary and number of holidays
  • Opportunities for professional growth through training, learning resources, and support for your career development.
  • Flexible working hours and arrangements, including the option to work from home when the nature of the work allows.
  • Team events to unwind and get to know each other better on personal level
  • Working in one of the tech innovation centres of Europe (Brainport region)
  • Great colleagues, a supportive culture with little hierarchy
  • Cutting edge lab equipment
  • Good coffee/tea guaranteed! 😉
  • And all colleagues sing for you on your birthday! 😄

Position details

  • Full-time 40 hours per week. It will start with a one-year contract, with possible extension when both sides experience a good match.
  • Location: Eindhoven, The Netherlands, including occasional travel abroad.
  • Expected start date is 1st of September 2025.

After reading this you must be pretty excited and want to work with our impact driven team that never has a dull day! So tell us why you are the perfect match that can take us to the next level by uploading a resume and motivation letter. We are really curious to read it and take it into consideration.
